Red-spotted gum timber beams and an innovative use of steel are used to dramatic effect on this pool-side pavilion in Malvern.
The 20mm stainless steel rods are fixed to stainless steel brackets which are a design feature in themselves, and look striking against the warmth of natural timber. The stainless steel rods run from the brackets, 5 metres deep to the rear of the pavilion structure, thus supporting the timber cantilevers.
It is an engineering and aesthetic triumph.
The 4Walls team applied their technical expertise in consulting with AMG Architects who designed this unique cantilevered system.
To complete the effect, stainless steel guide wires will run horizontally across the pergola structure to support an ornamental grapevine. In time, the grapevine will provide a canopy of changing colour throughout the seasons encasing the pavilion structure.
The application of stainless steel brackets and rods and spotted gum timber beams will be repeated on a second pergola structure built off the rear of the residence, providing a subtle, yet soothing symmetry to the landscape garden design.
